Annotation: The work is a study of the effects of pickling and tanning on the properties of ostrich tanning semi- finished leather to optimise leather dressing processes. Optimal regimes for raw hide tanning are developed through investigations and a series of experiments, using tanning agents - chromium compounds as well as combined tanning compounds such as chromium-aldehyde and chromium-sintane ones, are carried out. It is shown that the collagen fibre structure separation greatest degree was achieved after 5 and 7 hours of treatment in the pickling process. It is proven that all the selected classes of chemicals and their selected concentrations can be fully applied to leather dressing, if use ostrich raw materials for its intended purpose. However, in order to minimise environmental impact, the selected combined tanning compounds, which pro- vide a good retention of the dermis structural elements, are preferred for use.
